{ Lacross }
Two people, one light table and a habit of taking things out
Lacross is a picture studio on Rua do Almada, in Porto. This is who we are, how we work and what to expect when you send us a box of photographs.
We started Lacross in 2019 after a decade of working on other people's pictures: one of us as a picture editor at magazines, the other at the press, checking sheets as they came off the machine. We kept meeting over the same problem. Good photographs were being asked to carry too much.
So the studio does one thing. We find the part of a picture that matters, and we clear the space around it. The short list of recent work shows what that looks like in books, campaigns and exhibitions.
How we work
Every project follows the same four steps, whatever its size:
- We print everything small and lay it out on one table.
- We edit down together, in the room, until the set holds.
- We sequence, crop and proof on the paper it will be printed on.
- We stay for the press check and the hang.
What we ask of you
Time, mostly. An edit made in a hurry is an edit made twice. We ask for the full set of pictures, not a selection, and for one person who can say yes.
Who we work with
The studio is small on purpose, and we take on a handful of projects a year:
- Photographers preparing a book, a portfolio or a show.
- Publishers and magazines with more pictures than pages.
- Brands willing to say one thing at a time.
Visiting
The studio is on the second floor of Rua do Almada 214 and is open by appointment. Write to hello@lacross.studio and we will find an afternoon.
