Halden
Unit 02 · On air

A small workshop that builds for open range.

Halden Instruments designs, assembles and installs sky consoles for herds that live a long way from the nearest forecast.

A nine-metre weather mast standing on open grassland under a wide sky

We started with one question from a stockman: why does the forecast always describe the town and never the paddock? The answer was that nobody was measuring the paddock. So we built a station that does.

Every Halden unit is one mast on the range and one console on the desk. The mast watches cloud, wind and ground. The console turns what it sees into a single instruction you can act on before breakfast.

How we work

We keep the process short and we do each part ourselves:

  • You tell us the size and shape of your range.
  • We reply with a mast position, a price and a date.
  • Two of us arrive and install the station in one day.

Built in small batches

Each batch is assembled and tested on our own bench before it ships. If a module fails in the field, we replace that module, not the station.

What you own

There is no subscription. The mast, the console and every reading they take belong to you. The whole station draws eleven watts, so one solar panel keeps it running through winter.

To see what the console reports through a working day, read the field notes, or request a field unit for your own range.
